Agartala: Dec 16: Vijoy Diwas was celebrated today at Agartala. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the victory of the Bengali nation.On this day in 1971, with the final victory in the long 9-month bloody war of liberation, the independent and sovereign state of Bangladesh free from aggression emerged on the world map.
The Bengali nation was freed from the curse of subjugation by the self-sacrifice of 3 million martyrs and the sacrifice and abandonment of two lakh mothers and sisters and the self-sacrifice and glorious mass heroism of millions of Bengalis. Therefore, to make the day more memorable, the day is also observed with due dignity in the state.Today, the state's Minister for Tourism and Agriculture Pranjit Singh Roy paid homage to the martyrs of 1971 at the Albert Ekka Udyan in Lichu Bagan.
On the same day, the Minister told the media that the Indian Army had made significant contribution during the liberation war of Bangladesh and had sacrificed its life to liberate the neighboring state of Bangladesh.
He also said that Indian soldiers have sacrificed their lives for the country from time to time and therefore we pay our respects to the martyred Indian soldiers and their families.
